Our Champion – Arch Jelley

Mt Albert Bridge Club is privileged to have Arch Jelley OBE, CNZM as a Patron.

The 2021 New Year’s Honours list named Arch as a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for his services to Athletics and the game of Bridge.

When Arch joined the club, he quickly applied his energy, dedication and determination to his new mission that had been evident, in the field of athletics. Not only did he quickly become a very good player, but he also played a major role in securing funding for the establishment of our club’s own premises in the millennium year.

Arch has spent many years teaching Bridge and the club has benefitted hugely from his research and tutoring on different Bridge systems. We all know he has a great Bridge-memory and a remarkable intuition for when to make a bid with a top board in mind!
Our club continues to benefit from Arch’s open-minded and visionary outlook, which has not only helped to develop our club but is also still leading us to further improvements.
